Notes from BKK

One thing you realise quite early about the streets of Bangkok is how clean they are, and how wide their pavements are compared to KL’s.

With the amount of time you spend on foot navigating this beast of a city, these wide pavements are not only practical, but often also the few opportunity where you can see people living, chatting, and laughing; in the small motorcycle taxi stalls, among the street vendors hands furiously fanning their grills. the traffic guards taking a moment between the unending river of cars.

It’s strange that this city is both walkable, and it is also not. You find that you would be confining yourself to the limited radii of the respective train stops if all you did was walk. Taxis, whether two- or four-wheeled gets you places, but when you’ll get there is always a gamble.

Maybe this is the city that’s best for wandering. For when all you want to do is move, and see what else is around you, without a destination in mind.

Where you can take your time to trawl the side streets and alleyways. Pick a time of your preference, lit by dim streetlamps, or under the glare of the summer sun.

The pavements will serve you well.
